Material Modelling

This is the backing sheet for my final submission; and the model itself. It is a culmination of the 4 weeks of class, and explores the themes of confinement, history of my place ' the rocks' and the word 'destruction', in this case represented through the idea of corrosion

This is my week 2 central theme part of the model, it is the confined conscience attempting to break free of the moulds of society.

My week 2 model as a whole. At each corner is a representation of the exterior world; and the connectors its influence on our conscience.

My week 3 model, exploring the theme of degredation in relation to the rocks. The imprint (the large white) is of an actual brick and the surrounding textured brick board add to the feel of history. the various bits and pieces represent the corrosion that time has on buildings.

Atlas of Colour

Abstractions of Nature, basis for Excercise 6. One is a feminine curvilinear exploration of the rose, the other a masculine geometric exploration of that of the much darker bark. Contrast was what I was aiming for here.

An abstraction of the colour wheel. Clean lines here make up the wheel, a bow to the geometric leaning of Holl. I am trying to demonstrate here that geometry has influence over even the fundemental in Holls work; and thus, in mine.

My two explorations of Space, Holls Stair, NYU building. Note the contrasting light and dark tones, this is to enhance both pictures. These were the final products of excercise 6.

Photoshop collage. Clean and minimalist, much like Holls plans, this collage explores variance in tone as a back drop to a single colour. Many of Holls buildings explore this theme in a minimalist fashion. Also the use of textured pictures such as shiny images are reminiscent of Holls clean whites and brilliant silvers.

Face Map: Uses the colour palette to give a natural and yet entirely unnatural look to Holl's face, reminiscent something most of his buildings seem to do, look natural and yet ultramodern all at once.

The landscape. Using all the tones in the pallete, this landscape shows the many different things that can be shown via a single palette. Like Holl, a single colour is dominant (red in my case) that gives the piece direction.
The red gives way to the browns of the mountain, the dark pinks of the trees and the light pink sea. The red sky simply serves as a backdrop to more brilliant ideals.

Explanation of Animation.

Focusing on the ideals of shape, this piece explores geometry through the red centre. Through focus and distortion of the simple brick early on, an abstraction of the rectangle is seen. These rectangles are used as a portal to more advanced objects, the cylinder. The cylinders complexity is shown through tracking its surface through 360 degrees and the animation shows the infinite array of perspectives that can be shown through following such a complex plane, the curved surface explores space like no other.
As the column is followed the shapes within the windows also change, giving light to the fact that this is infact a space through which movement is prominent, a stair way. The shapes also allude to the constant movement of the outside world, the other side of the windows.
the animation is drawn to a conclusion by going through the brick wall. This is to show that, in the end, sometimes even the most simple of items can be the most effective and draw you in the most. The brick wall is my favourite part of the red centre stair; thus I chose to go 'into' it as the animation ends.
